For over 65 years, Kalima & Company has been Singapore’s trusted name for authentic batik, lungi, and sarong. What began as a small family‑run business has grown into a respected brand known for quality fabrics, traditional craftsmanship, and long‑lasting customer relationships. 

The Name Kalima is an acronym for kader Ali Maricar ,who is the father of K.Hameed Ghouse Maricar,the founder of the firm Kalima & company in 1959 in Singapore –though it has a connotation with the muslim religious name KALIMA .Even the original Kader Ali Maricar has been doing  business in india and Indonesia as well during his life time.

Although he started the business as a Lungi (sarong) merchant in India and branched out to Indonesia, Malaysia etc;- Mr. Hameed Ghouse Maricar, his son started Kalima & Company in Singapore in 1959 doing various kinds of business in gents sarongs,batiks, dresses, ladies abaya, ladies garments and even sarees initially and batik shirts as well.

The Company currently deals in all kinds of batiks, lungies(Sarongs) and dresses, bedsheet(Batiks), batik shirts and general merchandise. We are importers & exporters.

Batiks have various kinds of uses like making dresses, sarongs, tablet spread screens, TV cover  etc . We have even batik bedsheets. We have 2 meters and 3 meters batiks as well. Africans normally use 4 meters or 5 meters, while the Burmese(Myanmar) people  use two, three meter batiks. Africans may buy two pieces in the same colour or design or contra designs to make it 4 or 5 metre( 2metre+3 metre) or( 2+2) 2 metre items. Since Batiks are used universally and worn by every buyers-this can be bought by anybody to suit their needs. These are mostly cotton materials.
